ID Protection, at times also referred to as Privacy or WHOIS Protection, is a service that conceals the authentic contact information of domain name owners on WHOIS lookup web sites. Without this service, the personal name, address and email of any domain owner will be publicly accessible. Providing false details during the registration procedure or altering the real info subsequently will just not work, as doing such a thing may result in the domain registrant losing their ownership of the domain. The policies adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), demand that the WHOIS details must be valid and up to date at all times. The ID Protection service was launched by domain name registrars as a response to the rising concerns for possible identity theft. If the protection service is enabled, the registrar’s contact info will be displayed instead of the domain name registrant’s upon a WHOIS check. Most domain names support the ID Protection service, although there are certain country-code extensions that do not.

ID Protection in Hosting

If you get a hosting package from our company, you’ll be able to enable ID Protection for any of your domain names as long as their extensions support this option. You can register/transfer a domain name and add ID Protection upon signup or you can enable the service for any of your domains at any time later through the Hepsia hosting Control Panel. The procedure is extremely easy – once you log in, you will need to visit the Registered Domains section where you’ll notice a list of all the domain names that you have registered through us. For each of them you will see an “ID Protect” button, which will show you if the service is activated or not. By clicking on it, you can either ID-protect the domain name, or you can turn off the service if it is currently active.

ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you’ve got a semi-dedicated server account with us and you register a domain name under it, you can enable our ID Protection service without any difficulty. This takes just a couple of mouse clicks in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, through which you manage everything related to your semi-dedicated hosting account. This is the place where you can see all your registered domain names and for each one of them you’ll see an “ID Protect” symbol, using which you can order, renew or remove the ID Protection service. Of course, this will be possible only with generic and country-code Top-Level Domain extensions that are ID Protection-eligible and you’ll be able to see this beforehand, so you won’t end up requesting a service that we can’t provide.
